Right now, Tollywood is buzzing with the Sankranti festivities. While two films are racing ahead with positive talk, the box office dominance is entirely in Venkatesh’s favor. Theatres are expected to run on the momentum of these films for the next 10 days. However, the next big box office clash is set for Valentine’s Day, February 14.
Although Thandel and Pattudala are scheduled for release the week before, strong rumors suggest that one of them might be postponed. Meanwhile, the Valentine’s Day releases may not be massive in scale, but they rely on strong content to attract audiences. Let’s take a look at these films.
Vishwak Sen’s Laila, where he appears in a complete lady getup for the first time, has received a mixed response after its teaser release. Many feel the content hasn’t connected well with the audience, but a well-cut trailer could generate buzz. Kiran Abbavaram, who delivered a surprise blockbuster with KA, is now back with Dil Ruba. While it appears to be a love story on the surface, the glimpses hint at an action element as well.
Comedy legend Brahmanandam teams up with his son Raja Goutham in Brahma Anandam, a film entirely based on humor. The makers are confident about its outcome. Meanwhile, comedian-turned-director Venu Yeldandi, who scored a hit with Balagam, seems to have inspired Dhanraj to follow a similar path. Dhanraj’s directorial Ramam Raghavam, co-starring Samuthirakani, is an emotional drama set for release on the same day.
With these four Telugu films clashing on February 14, avoiding competition seems impossible. Adding another twist, Bollywood’s Chhaava, a historical drama starring Rashmika Mandanna, is also arriving on the same day with a pan-India release. With multiple films in the race, it will be interesting to see which one emerges as the winner in a month’s time.
