The deadly HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) virus, which has been causing panic in China, has now entered India. What many feared has unfortunately come true. Doctors in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, suspect that a child may have contracted the virus. The eight-month-old baby is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, according to reports.

This news has caused widespread concern, particularly in the Telugu states bordering Karnataka. Both state governments are advising citizens to take necessary precautions. However, the Karnataka government has yet to officially confirm any HMPV virus cases. Now, let’s understand what the symptoms of this virus are and how to recognize them, especially in children.

Children infected with the HMPV virus typically show symptoms such as high fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and nasal congestion. Additionally, these children are at risk of developing pneumonia and bronchitis infections. Medical experts are urging parents to be extra cautious with their children. It is recommended to wear a mask when stepping outside and use hand sanitizers regularly. Moreover, children should only be taken outside if absolutely necessary.
